Varför DFM måste börja redan vid projektstart

DFM is not a final checklist. Learn why involving manufacturing from day one reduces redesigns, lowers cost, and keeps PCB projects on schedule.

Varför DFM måste börja redan vid projektstart
Kari Rantakoski

DFM is not a final checklist. It is a part of a good design process.

Design for Manufacturability (DFM) is often misunderstood as a late-stage review step.

In reality, it is a mindset that must guide PCB projects from the very beginning.

The most successful electronics programs involve manufacturing at project kickoff,
long before schematics are frozen or layouts begin.

Starting DFM early allows teams to make informed decisions about stackups,
materials, tolerances, components, panelization, and test strategy
when changes are still inexpensive and fast.

Late DFM, by contrast, turns small issues into schedule and cost risks.

Organizations that treat DFM as a core part of project planning
ship faster, scale smoother, and avoid unpleasant surprises.

DFM does not slow development—it removes friction.
